About

During the Codemotion Milan 2018 conference Thiago de Faria delivered the talk “AI with a DevOps mindset – experimentation, sharing and easy deployment of Machine Learning components”. We asked Thiago few questions: What makes machine learning / artificial intelligence so important nowadays? Why should we apply DevOps practices and principles in machine learning? In machine learning, part of the application has statistical results – some of the results will be as expected, some will not. DevOps, instead, aim for measurability and testability. How and what are the challenges of ML testing? How important is sharing knowledge between the team building an ML model and the IT team? What can they learn from each other in terms of skills and duties? Is DataOps considered a culture, as DevOps is?

Thiago de Faria
Head of Solutions EngineeringLINKIT
Thiago started in Pure Mathematics, jumped to predicting things and realized it was utterly dependent on understanding the inner bits of software development and data pipelines. Thus, his primary concern changed: how to bridge the gap between ML and production? :-) DataOps FTW! He is an active part of the community (devopsdays Amsterdam, ITNEXT & Codemotion), a knowledge-sharer, a proud father and a DataOps Lead. Thiago is pathologically curious and a continuous learner. He knows that high-performing data teams must decrease time-to-market and build production-ready applications, always!
