Learning from the open source world: discovering barriers to contribution
About
A barrier to contribution is a reason for a contributor to give up participating, which negatively impacts in the ecosystem (OSS communities, internal developments, etc.). Understanding common barriers enables managers and community leaders to identify effective means to make their development teams more engaging and thereby improve the ecosystem.
This talk will present a research run at the Apache Software Foundation (700 surveys, 20 interviews) with 88 different barriers and mitigation strategies provided by the community. This will give an overview of the diversity gap as well.
