Web Component: reinventare il web

Finally after 9 years from Alex Russell introduction to Web Components, we have reached the full support to this amazing technology. Now we can make custom, reusable, complex and encapsulated HTML tags to be used everywhere. Like much libraries or frameworks we have now a standard way to handle the state of ours components (Custom Elements Lifecycles) and, where Web Components aren't supported, we can use Polyfills. With the adoption of the Chromium engine by Microsoft Team, 2019 will be the year of Web Components.

Finite state machines and statecharts have been very popular in Computer Science since the twentieth century, but they are gaining fame also in front-end development as web applications become more and more complex. State machines present themselves as very manageable and expressive solutions which able to model complex behaviours or event-driven systems. During this talk, we'll go through the state of art of this pattern, by comparing implementations in pure TypeScript or with libraries like "xstate".

When working on complex front-end applications the need arises to clearly separate the state and the data of the app. What if some action can only be performed if some conditions are met? Or some action must be automatically performed in a particular scenario? Implementing such apps from scratch is error prone and... painful. In this talk I will show how to model front-end applications using state machines, and how that modelling translates directly to code using redux-sigma, a library built on top of redux and redux-saga.

Uno spaccato dello sviluppo front-end degli ultimi 20 anni: dalle tabelle a Web NFC passando per Service Workers e Node JS. Cosa è cambiato in questi anni, quali sono stati i fallimenti e quali le conquiste che ci hanno fatto arrivare al web che conosciamo oggi?
