Ingress es el método principal para manejar tráfico externo hacia un cluster de Kubernetes, con muchísimos proveedores implementando controladores para ello. Pero su popularidad y las diferentes implementaciones también sacaron a relucir algunas limitaciones de su API, y los proveedores empezaron a introducir sus propias APIs para complementar las de Ingress. En 2019, con la experiencia de Ingress, un grupo de desarrolladores del SIG Network formaron un grupo de trabajo para diseñar una nueva API desde cero, con el objetivo de mantener su sencillez, pero haciéndola más completa y extensible. En esta charla introduciremos y haremos una demo de la nueva Gateway API, sus ventajas, y cómo se compara con Ingress. Al final de la misma podrás entender las diferencias entres ambas APIs y las estrategias para migrar de una a otra.

The last few years saw a log of interest in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). Ever since Google published the first SRE book there was an “explosion” in interest in the subject. Many saw it as an approach to implement DevOps. Others said it was a DevOps evolution. Regardless, SRE is here to stay. Moreover, reliability is here to stay. But how would you approach if you were tasked with implementing “reliability engineering”? What would be the steps you would take to achieve that audacious goal, both cultural and technical? That’s precisely what we’ll explore in this talk. We’ll talk about practical advice on how to get started but also go to get the ball rolling. We’ll discuss culture and tech and how they have to work together if you wish to prioritize reliability engineering.

En ésta charla, vamos a revisar cómo se planifican, realizan y se validan migraciones a gran escala hacia la nube. Las migraciones masivas son la forma mas rápidas de adoptar la nube a gran escala en la mayoría de las organizaciones, pero no son sencillas, requiren de mucha planificación y entender muy bien nuestras aplicaciones y la infrastructura que las sostiene. Aquí vamos a revisar que es todo lo que se debe tomar en cuenta al migrar aplicaciones, como validar la infraestructura tanto de partida como de destino, migrar los datos, planificar el cut over y mucho mucho mas!

Hay muchas alternativas para gestionar Secretos en Kubernetes, pero pocas tienen la sencillez de uso de Bitnami Sealed Secrets. La idea es sencilla: permitir a los usuarios cifrar sus Secretos localmente. Como los Sealed Secrets están cifrados, se pueden almacenar sin problemas junto con el resto de la configuración de las aplicaciones. Esto habilita un modelo de trabajo GitOps muy popular en la comunidad Open Source. Sealed Secrets hace una gestión de secretos en un cluster realmente sencilla, pero ¿qué ocurre cuando tienes muchos secretos que gestionar? ¿o cuándo tienes que gestionar no un cluster sino cientos de ellos?En la charla veremos cómo se pueden hacer una gestión de Secretos a escala con Sealed Secrets.

You will learn how to do this by leveraging the tools you already have, just your laptop and Docker. Most importantly, you will learn how to build your lab as code, meaning you can spin it up and tear it down whenever needed.

Aunque generalmente gestionamos recursos en Kubernetes de manera declarativa mediante el uso de manifiestos, lo más habitual suele ser aplicarlos de forma imperativa desde un pipeline o incluso a mano. No es del todo fácil saber quién, cuándo y cómo se han desplegado las aplicaciones o modificado sus configuraciones, y ya no hablemos de operaciones más complejas como tener que preparar un entorno nuevo desde cero. Vayamos un paso más allá en la filosofía GitOps y veamos cómo tener un repositorio Git como fuente de la verdad de nuestras aplicaciones y recursos de Kubernetes. Todos nuestros cambios bajo control de versiones, y sólo hacer un Push para desplegar. Imagina que un pase a producción pueda ser "sólo" aceptar una Pull Request. Eso y mucho más nos permite Flux.
